Next Gen Foods plans 2022 US market entry with TiNDLE plant-based chicken

While the plant-based meat category is not short of startups promising to fix the broken food system, this is not the first rodeo for Andre Menezes and Timo Recker, who founded Next Gen Foods​ ​in April 2020 and have already launched products in multiple countries.

German native Recker, whose family business made schnitzel for three generations, had previously founded a successful meat alternatives business called LikeMeat in Germany (which he sold early last year), while Menezes – an engineer who hails from Brazil – was running Country Foods, one of the biggest food importers, distributors and processors in Singapore, when the two met in Singapore and hit it off.

Engineers Cook 3D-Printed Chicken With Lasers

If you’re tired of cooking chicken that comes out rubbery or still raw, there may be a new solution for you. A team of researchers at Columbia University recently demonstrated that several different types of lasers can be used to cook 3D-printed chicken thoroughly, with no adverse effects on the food’s taste.

The findings are the latest step in the lab’s progress toward digitizing the cooking process. The team cooked chicken right on a tabletop—no need for a conventional oven or stove. Their results were published this month in the journal npj Science of Food.

“Cooking is essential for nutrition, flavor, and texture development in many foods, and we wondered if we could develop a method with lasers to precisely control these attributes,” said Jonathan Blutinger, an engineer at Columbia University and the paper’s lead author, in a university press release.

Nearly 60k pounds of chicken products sold at Aldi, other stores recalled for possible salmonella

Serenade Foods is recalling nearly 60,000 pounds of frozen and raw chicken products for possible salmonella contamination.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced the Milford, Indiana company’s voluntary recall on its website late Monday.

Five products are included in the recall under three brand names: Dutch Farms Chicken, Milford Valley Chicken and Kirkwood, which is an Aldi store brand. The items were shipped to distributors nationwide, but a list of the retailers that sold the affected products was not included with the recall notice.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced in early June that it was investigating a multistate outbreak of salmonella illnesses, which the federal agency linked to raw, frozen, breaded, stuffed chicken products. The USDA also issued a public health alert June 2.
